From Marumitsu Poterie: A collection of smaller bowls in the Japanese style representing a plum blossom. In Japan, this type of flower shaped vessel is often used on the table to evoke the short-lived beauty of spring. Pale yellow earthen clay is covered with a layer of white powder-clay before transparent glazing, called the Japanese "kohiki" technique. It results in faint shades of pink, and yellowish clay is seen through. They are just the right sizes for Japanese side dishes, pickles and sweets.
