Indigo Tenugui Waffle

BUAISOU

112892

From BUAISOU: Indigo-dyed, soft, and loosely woven Sarashi fabric. Plain, bun-standard, medium weight fabric, woven with #20 cotton yarn. The double gauze pattern design is produced by Kata-zome(stencil dyeing) technique.

Traditional looms that can weave fabrics of this width are extremely rare. Fortunately, one was found in a mill in our hometown of Tokushima. The loom had been out of commission for several decades but has now been given a new life and put back into production. The design depicts the annual process from seed to Sukumo, working in the fields, and dyeing in Indigo. The pattern is created by a technique called Bassen (discharge), in which the color is removed after dyeing, and finally, each is hand finished in our studio.

Care: We recommend that you gently hand wash items with detergent and lukewarm water the first 2-3 times after purchase. Because the products are handmade, each item’s colors and patterns are unique.  The dye may react to ultraviolet rays such as sunlight and discoloration may occur.
