This First Edition volume is numbered and signed by the artist, and features all 225 drawings and companion texts from the COVID-19 Labor Camp Reports series. There are three cover designs total, internal contents are the same. Signed and numbered edition of 1,500.
On March 24, 2020, artist Piotr Szyhalski embarked on a daily drawing practice responding to the COVID-19 pandemic as it unfolded in real time. What began as a way for him to share observations of life in lockdown and the pain caused by the pandemic quickly became a daily exercise of chronicling his thoughts and feelings and reconciling them with the changes being wrought in the world. In total, 225 ink drawings, a new one made each day for eight months were posted on social media (@laborcamp), serving as a witness to the unfolding crises and a record of time, both labored and lost.
The project established an ongoing dialogue with audiences, in public and private, that continues today. The Reports call us to action, ask us to question what is happening in our world, and most importantly, inspire hope and solidarity.
